Things and stuff

Things are moving along at quite the jaunt lately. we’re *supposed* to close on the house in 7 days! 7 days kids! Oh.My.God. I can’t believe how quickly time is ticking by lately. Its insane. Truly insane.

Work has been very slow, but apparently that is all about to change. Personally I prefer to not be busy in the summer, 1. Its beautiful outside and thats where I want to be, in my new backyard. 2. Who wants to work in a hot sweaty scenery shop in 95 degree weather for 8 hours a day, and 3. Who wants to do overtime in the above conditions.

Anyway, back to the throws of packing. Pictures of the new place to come soon. Followed by LOTS of happy home owner projects, and canning, and BBQ!!!

We’re putting an offer in (for real this time!!) on a property in Plainfield, NJ that reminds me of the house from The Golden Girls..

House warming BBQ details to follow. All dogs welcome (That means you Hyde!)

Suddenly I woke up

and I had  reached the age where one starts to have serious conversations about weddings, mortgages, when/if one wants to have children, and maybe we should start saving for a down payment?

Oh and hey we’re in a ridiculously unstable industry, have you ever thought about what you might want to do if the entertainment industry goes entirely to shit?

For the record the answers to those questions are as follows

We can’t afford one

Not right now and at least 5 years from now so my Union annuity is vested and I don’t lose it

Um yes we friggan should, as soon as we meet with the Wells Fargo guy

In response to my last post about helping out the kids over at the Teen Shelter, I sucked it up and offered up my help to the woman that gave me the idea in the first place, MoneyMateKate since she was interested in cooking for the kids, but wasn’t comfortable with cooking for a lot of people at once.

A little to my surprise ( I expected her to think I was daft really) she agreed, and the plan is for her and I to meet at the shelter one night and cook up some num nums for the kids. I. Can’t. Wait.

To those of you who responded to the post or the email I sent out looking for some help, once I figure out what the deal is, I’ll send another mass email out and we can figure out a date that works for people and head on down to 36th street.

It feels good to be able to do something for the community other than just signing over a check. I like the getting my hands dirty behind this.

Hand over your time and/or groceries

So there is this Homeless Teen Shelter in Manhattan. It helps out runaways or kids that have been kicked out, mainly LGBT teens.
I’ve been thinking about donating some time and/or groceries for awhile now, but frankly I’m a wimp and haven’t wanted to go it alone. They exist solely on donations from people and the food bank of New York, but lately the food bank has stopped handing out things like milk, eggs, produce, etc. Each week on their yahoo group page they post a list of items needed for the week, things like groceries, or socks, pillow cases, specific clothing items the kids need for job interviews, school supplies, money for a fee needed to get a birth certificate etc.
A few weeks back they asked if people would be interested in coming in with groceries and maybe cooking dinner for the kids, which is really what I’d like to do, but referring back to my ridiculous “Oh my god the 15 year old might think I’m lame!!!” paranoia I’m looking for a little back up support on this one. I know money/time/love for me 🙂 is tight right now, so if you all think I’m out of my mind, I may in fact need to get over myself and go it alone.
But if you think maybe you’d be interested in helping me and these kids out for a night then I’ll buy the groceries, and bring my cooking for the masses  know how and meet you there, and we’ll give them something other than rice and beans. I’d be interested in doing this more than once so lemme know!
Let me know if any of y’all are interested, think I suck, can’t be bothered, or would have a fear of 15 year olds yourself and would rather just hand over a box of pasta to help my quest.
Thanks guys!

Planning with money and the “future” for 2009

~Source avenues of bringing in at least $150 extra per month

~Fund my E-fund for 6 months worth of expenses (~$7,000 Currently sitting at about 2500$)

~Work out 3 times a week (Currently sitting at a measly once a week)

~Lose 35lbs

~Start family cookbook for Christmas ’09 by March ’09

Career & THE Future

~ Look at what my options are after my apprenticeship with work has ended

~Sign up to take a class outside of my current industry (Most likely cooking related)

Thats what I have for right now, these are in fact rather loose goals. Most of them revolve around finances as you can tell.

What are your goals for the upcoming year people?
